Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
Klartext is built so that there is as little to protect as possible. There is no account, no sign-up, and no email address. This page describes everything the app and its server do with information.
What is collected
- The photograph of your letter. When you scan a letter, the image is sent to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API to be read. It is held in memory for the length of that request and is not written to disk and not retained by us afterwards.
- An anonymous identifier. On first launch the app creates a random UUID and stores it in the device Keychain. It is not derived from you or your device, and it is the only thing that identifies your install. It is used to count your free letters and to record what you have paid for.
- Purchase receipts. Apple's signed transaction records are sent to our server so it can confirm a purchase is genuine.
What is not collected
No name, no email address, no phone number, no contacts, no location, no advertising identifier, and no analytics or advertising SDK of any kind. We cannot identify you, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Where your letters live
The explanations Klartext produces — and the letters they belong to — are stored only on your device, in the app's own storage. They are not uploaded, backed up to us, or readable by us. Deleting the app deletes them.
Reminders
Deadline reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing about them leaves the phone, and no push server is involved.
Who else is involved
- Anthropic (Claude API) reads the photographed letter and returns the explanation. Anthropic does not use API inputs or outputs to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Apple handles all payments and subscriptions. We never see your payment details.
- RevenueCat receives purchase events tied to the anonymous UUID above, so we can see how many subscriptions there are. It receives no letter content and no personal information. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
How long anything is kept
The photograph: for the seconds it takes to read it. The anonymous UUID and what it has paid for: for as long as the balance matters, so that reinstalling the app does not lose letters you bought.
Children
Klartext is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
Because there is no account, we hold nothing that can be linked to you as a person. If you want the record attached to your anonymous identifier deleted, email abdullahobeid2@gmail.com from the device in question and say so; deleting it also deletes any remaining paid balance.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
